Step by Step

Put everyday routines in order: washing hands, making a sandwich and brushing teeth. Pupils tap picture cards into First, Next and Last. A wrong card gets a calm “not yet”, and a hint can show the right one. When a routine is finished, the game reads the steps back in order.

For KS1–KS4+. About 8 minutes. Literacy & communication. Low sensory, no reading needed, works without sound.

Tips for teachers

• Do the routine for real straight after, such as washing hands before lunch.
• Start with Fewer steps. Move to all the steps when pupils are ready.
• Say “first”, “next” and “last” as each card goes in.
• Point to each picture as the game reads the order back.
